Looking for a new job? Whether you are looking to find jobs online or in your area the key to giving you an edge when job hunting is to have a good resume. Today you can find a free resume builder online. Although a free resume builder or any resume building software can help you to create a very basic resume, it should only be used as a guideline for writing your resume. I have personally created over 500 resumes for clients and have used a free resume program a few times, but have found that these programs are way too basic and do not allow you to really create a resume that will catch a prospective employer's eye. Your resume is your first impression to a future employer and if you do not make a good first impression then you probably won't even be granted an interview. I will share a few tips that will help to insure that you make a good first impression.

1.) Always include a cover letter with your resume. Introduce yourself, the nature of the job you are applying for and how you feel you will be an asset to this particular company.

2.) Never include references on your resume. Just simply type on the bottom that reference will be available upon request.

3.) Resumes should never be longer than one page.

4.) Tailor your resume for each position you are applying for. Highlight the qualities that pertains to the position you are seeking.

5.) Always follow up on your resume, and if granted an interview, follow up with a thank you note to make a lasting impression.

A free resume builder can be a good tool to assist you in creating your resume, but a free resume builder does not allow you the opportunity to personalize your resume as much as it should be.
